Prayer Meeting Devotion (March 22, 2017)

“Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.”
James 4:8a

It is interesting to watch people gathered around a campfire. They will sit close to the fire until they warm up, then they scoot away when they get too hot. But as the fire dies down, they get cold and slide closer to the flames again. We like a comfortable temperature – give me 72 degrees at all times, right? campfire_t610

I find the same principle at work spiritually. We like to stay a comfortable distance away from the presence of God. We certainly do not want to be so far away as to be spiritually cold. But if we get too close, it gets uncomfortable. God starts pruning us. He starts convicting us. So we scoot back to our comfortable distance.

Can I urge you to press in deeper with the Lord? To draw closer to the fire of His presence? To get as close as possible to Him?
